Here’s how Pepper Rewards works:
Pepper lets you purchase gift cards for the exact amount of your intended purchase from lots of big brands. So instead of paying directly via credit card, you purchase a gift card from Pepper, and redeem it at the merchant. Pepper gives you points redeemable for more gift cards with each purchase, and you can still use portals like Rakuten, along with any applicable brand referral programs.
For example, let’s say I want to make a purchase at Sephora. The total with taxes and shipping comes out to $71.22. I can purchase a gift card for that exact amount from Pepper, then immediately apply it to my Sephora order, without having that annoying tiny leftover gift card balance to keep track of. I then earn my normal Sephora rewards, plus Pepper points on the gift card purchase that I can redeem for more gift cards, and 1x credit card points from purchasing the gift card on Pepper.
It’s also just a fast and easy to way to purchase e-gift cards for any reason, while earning extra rewards on the purchase. Most gift cards purchases with your credit card don’t fall into an extra points category, so you’ll still earn your 1x credit card points with Pepper purchases, and receive Pepper rewards on top of it.

Pepper has run at least a couple Amex offers, and as of publication, there’s a spend $75, get $30 back offer currently available through March 31st, 2024. Before you make a purchase, be sure to check for Amex (or possible other credit card issuer) offers for Pepper. I snagged a $75 Sephora gift card for $45, and got about $6 in points on the purchase.
So stacking Pepper’s intro offer with the Amex offer, you’d spend $200 total, get $30 back on your Amex, $20 in bonus points for spending $200, as well as the extra points on the value of the $200. Right now Amazon gift cards net you 8x bonus points.
