Fairytale Photos of Early 1900s Germany

Fairytale Photos of Early 1900s Germany | Thought & Sight

A gorgeous new book from Taschen compiles over 800 vintage, straight-from-a-fairytale Photochrom photos from early 1900s Germany.

Full of “medieval towns, rural traditions, and mystical forests, creating a fascinating and nostalgic panorama of a long lost epoch before the ravages of time and history set in,” the photos offer a compelling peek at Germany during a time when travel would have been nothing short of magical (and if you’re looking for a great book to cozy up with this winter, you get a bit of a sense of this experience in A Time of Gifts as well).

    • They are actually! They just look very painterly because they were originally black and white photographs that were converted to color using the Photochrom process.
