Detroit, then and now

At this point, the word “Detroit” is almost shorthand for crumbling and abandoned. Amidst the ruins, it can be difficult to grasp what a vibrant, thriving city Detroit once was. Which is why this project from Hungarian artist Flora Borsi is so cool! She carefully overlaid vintage photos of life and work in the city with with images of the space as it is now:

  1. These shots are amazing – I find there’s something really fascinating about Detroit, it’s like a phoenix rising from the ashes.

    • It will be really interesting to see what Detroit looks like in a couple decades! I’m not sure if the idea is moving forward, but I remember reading about proposals for things like a ring of urban agriculture to replace blighted and abandoned neighborhoods.
